Wow! That Was A Quick Month!

Where the crap did January go?  It seems like just yesterday it was the first of the year and I was planning for our annual trip South.  Then, boom – now it’s February! January was a pretty good month for running.  This is the month that I usually cut back a little on my mileage.  I believe that everyone should do that every once in a while.  You need to give your body a rest from hard training and to recharge your batteries. So, I started off the first week and a half or so of January tapering for a half marathon.  For several years now, I’ve planned a marathon or half marathon in Florida for January or February.  I was doing the A1A Marathon in Fort Lauderdale every year until I found the Key West Half.  Now, I’m hooked on that race.  It’s a lot of fun and, come on, … {Continue Reading… }

Race Recap – Key West Half Marathon – Great Vacation, A Not-So-Great Race For Me

The Key West Marathon has come and gone for 2016.  This is my favorite trip that Hubby and I make every year.  This year was no different – except for the sucky race.  But, more about that in a bit. We left home a little before 5 a.m. on Wednesday before the race – we always plan to stay a night on the road.  The closer we can get the first day – the less time we have the second day.  And, the earlier that we are in Key West!  Hubby was feeling pretty good and we were making good time – so, we made it to Key Largo the first night.  We pulled off the road about 10 p.m. Getting within 2 hours of Key West meant that we didn’t have to get up early to complete the trip. I got up and went for an easy couple of … {Continue Reading… }

All Things Considered – 2015 Was A Great Year!

Here we are at the last day of 2015!  Can you believe it!  It has totally flown by!  As I’ve said – I like to sit down the last week of a year and plan for the new one and to think about the year gone by.  I decided that even though there were some bumps in the road – it was a pretty good year! January brought my first race – Key West Half Marathon.  I absolutely love this race – and I love being in Florida in January!  One day – I’m going to live in Florida!  I’m pretty much over cold and snow.  Luckily Hubby has no problem with taking her away for my winter races!  We always stay a few days in Key West and then head up to Long Key and Marathon area for a few days.  Love this time!   February and March was … {Continue Reading… }

Key West Half Marathon – What A Fun Race!

This was a race that I was really looking forward to – and dreading at the same time!  2013 was one of those years that you go through – and are really happy to be done with. As you’ve probably heard me talk about last year (OK and sometimes whine about) – it seemed like it was one thing after another.  First Plantar Fasciitis the first quarter of the year – then other things popped up throughout the year.  For someone that had never had an injury in over 30 years of running – I seemed to make up for it last year. However, nothing was serious enough to keep me from getting in my runs and continuing my streak!   But, I wasn’t able to really train throughout the whole year.  And, then, when I was training for this race – the cold and frigid weather kicked in.  Not … {Continue Reading… }
