Am I Really Becoming A Social Runner Again?

That’s the question that I’ve been asking myself the last several weeks.  Let me share with you why I’m asking that. For many years, I ran 3 or 4 nights a week with others.  I had 4 guys that I was friends with and we all ran about the same speed.  These were fun (and sometimes a little competitive) runs.  I still consider these guys to be good friends – even though we lost one of them and I haven’t seen the others for years.  But, I know that we’d pick right up where we left off. Then, as life always does, circumstances change and I became a solitary, early morning runner. And, I LOVED it!  I still do.  I love getting out early morning by myself.  It’s my total me time.  And, trust me – as an only child and having a crazy, busy life – it’s important. Reasons To Run Alone

Yes, I can hear some of you yelling at me through your computer already.  But, I have some very valid reasons why it is advantageous to run by yourself.  Yes, I know that it can be great to have someone to run with you to help the miles go by.  Yes, I know about camaraderie.  Years ago – we’re talking 15 or more years ago, I ran 4-5 times a week with a group of guys that were my bestie running friends.  But, then I started running by myself – and I absolutely love it!  Here’s some reasons why:  You won’t try to be a runner that you aren’t.  When you are running with someone else – you will try to keep up with their pace – whether they are slower or faster than you.  If you’re the slower runner – you won’t kill yourself trying to keep up with … {Continue Reading… }

Why I Love Running By Myself

I love running by myself!  I know that for some of you that is blasphemy – but, I do.  For years, I used to run 4 or 5 days a week with others and I enjoyed the  camaraderie that we shared!  They were all guys (3 and sometimes a 4th) and we had a blast.  I guess I was the token female of the group!  I was one of the guys – and we would talk about everything. Side note here – another reason why I absolutely love my hubby!  He understood that these guys were my running buds and nothing more and trusted me to meet them almost every evening after work to run.  I know that I’m extremely lucky! Anyway, after many years – the group more or less disbanded.  None of those guys are running anymore – and I do miss them.  There are groups that I could … {Continue Reading… }

Why I Love Running Alone

There are many reasons to run with another person (or a group) and many reasons to run by yourself. There are pros and cons to both sides.  For many years, I ran with a group of friends.  We ran together 3-4 days a week and always had a great time.  Some days, we’d meet after work at my house or where I worked at the time – go for a hard run – then, call in a pizza or head out for burgers.  I still love those guys and miss our  camaraderie. However, about the last 10 years or so, I’ve run completely solo.  And, I love it!  My life had become a little crazy busy – so, I started running first thing in the morning.  At first, it was because I needed to be sure that I got my run in – and you never knew what was going … {Continue Reading… }
