Ramblings On Another Streak Anniversary

Today is November 21st, the day after my Streak Anniversary!  Yesterday, I celebrated 31 years of running without missing a day.  The Streak Registry (yes, there is one – and I’m number 58 on the all time list) showed me as reaching this milestone on Friday – I guess due to extra days for leap year over all this time.  But, since I started my streak on November 20th, that’s the day that I always celebrate. So many people are flabbergasted when they hear that I’ve run that long without missing a day. It just doesn’t seem like that big a deal to me.  Now, don’t get me wrong – I am super proud of my streak.  And, I think that my Hubby is prouder.  He is always telling someone about it. Streaking Runners – We Think A Little Differently

Any of you out there that are streaking runners know that we have to think a little differently.  We don’t think about IF we are going to run today – we think about WHEN we are going to run today.  It was always in the back of my mind, I guess, that we have a different outlook – but I didn’t realize how much until this morning. I was running my 10-miler on Tuesday morning.  During longer runs, I love to listen to podcasts from other runners.  On this morning, I was listening to a couple and they were talking about their running for the week. One of them actually said that they went 5 days without running because they didn’t have time.  She was in meetings from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. so there was no time to run. What?????? Running Podcast – Running Motivation – Become A Streaker!

Today’s podcast is one of the major ways that I stay motivated to run.  I’m a streaker! That’s right, my running streak has given me running motivation on more than one occasion! There have been cold days, days that I’ve had to head out the door at 4:30 to get my run in before business meetings or family member’s surgeries, etc.    I know that my running is what will give me the energy to get through my day.  But, sometimes, it is definitely the streak that makes my run happen.
