Wow! That Was A Quick Month!

January miles

Where the crap did January go?  It seems like just yesterday it was the first of the year and I was planning for our annual trip South.  Then, boom – now it’s February!

January was a pretty good month for running.  This is the month that I usually cut back a little on my mileage.  I believe that everyone should do that every once in a while.  You need to give your body a rest from hard training and to recharge your batteries.

So, I started off the first week and a half or so of January tapering for a half marathon.  For several years now, I’ve planned a marathon or half marathon in Florida for January or February.  I was doing the A1A Marathon in Fort Lauderdale every year until I found the Key West Half.  Now, I’m hooked on that race.  It’s a lot of fun and, come on, it’s Key West in January!

After the race, I like to take a few more easy and short days (3 – 5) to take it easy – and to enjoy our vacation.  It works out great!  (In case you didn’t know, Hubby and I own a Dairy Queen so, summer vacations don’t happen.)

After getting back, it’s been cold – but, I’ve been proud of myself!  I’ve been pulling up my big girl panties and running outside on some days that I would have usually gone downstairs to my treadmill.  (Another side note – I used to run outside all the time until about 10 years ago.  Between getting older and my Hubby worrying about me in the dark when it’s icy – I bought a treadmill.  Not ashamed to admit that it’s been a good friend more than once!)  In fact, just the other day – I did hill repeats a morning in the rain and 35 degrees.  I was quite proud of myself!

January was a pretty good much for my drop back month.  155 total miles for the month.  Now, on to February!
